New chapter in Tehran-Vienna trade ties

TEHRAN, Sep. 09 (MNA) – Following the visit of Austrian President to Tehran, up to 15 MoUs worth 80 million euros have been signed between the two countries, signalling a new chapter in their bilateral ties.

Hundreds of Iranian and Austrian traders and businessmen gathered in Tehran's Summit Hall on Tuesday to sign 15 cooperation agreements worth 80 million euros which according to the president of Austria’s Federal of Economic Chamber, can be increased fivefold.

The Austrian official maintained that expanding cooperation on tourism, education, and investment projects were among the issues discussed between the two countries.

Also on Wednesday, the president of National Bank of Austria held talks with the governor of the Central Bank of Iran and explored avenues for promoting banking cooperation between Tehran and Vienna.

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Akbar Komijani stressed the formation of a working group between the two countries’ central banks saying “this working group in the first step can review the current status of banking and financial relations and in the second step it can offer solutions to resolve the problems.”

Komijani added that the suspense in Iran-Austria's banking ties was due to the economic sanctions, expressing hope that the visits of the Austrian delegations could further improve the relations.

The two sides expressed readiness to develop trade, economic and banking relations, stressing that the agreements would benefit both sides.

The Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived in Tehran on Monday accompanied by a 230-strong delegation of senior business executives, with the purpose of discussing ways to improve Tehran-Vienna relations.
